Activity One Draw two lines parallel to each other about the thickness of a pencil apart. Shade in between the lines from very dark to extremely light. Try to do this as smoothly as possible, no overlapping lines.
Draw a box with a front, a side and a top. Color each of them with the same color but put different pencil pressure on each side. Draw two tin can cylinders. When shading a rounded object, curve the shading to create accurate 3D.
Activity Two
Draw a rectangle on your page 15 cm by 18 cm. Inside the rectangle draw 7 random curving lines that cross each other. Shade four of the shapes with one color from dark and intense to very very light as smoothly as possible.
Shade four of the shapes with two different colors the same way but from opposite directions. Shade two of the shapes (the biggest ones left) with three different colors the same way. Shade in the rest of the shapes with one, two or three colors. The goal is to fade out the colors very slowly and very smoothly.
Activity 3Draw or trace three circles, one large, one medium and one small. Shade the small one with straight lines and even color to make it look flat. Shade the second one with one color from dark to light, be sure your pencil is travelling in a curve to produce a ball that looks round. Shade the biggest ball the same way with two colors.
Draw a thick worm shape crossed over itself. Shade the shape with two different colors to show a light and darkside.
Activity Four
Shading cloth for clothing. Draw a curved line with two waves on it. Above it draw the same shape but smaller. Shade the shape from dark to light. Make sure your pencil is travelling in the same curve as the bottom line when you are shading. Add a second or even third color.
Activity Five
Draw three geometric shapes layered over the top each other. Shade the objects using two or more colors.
Color Pencil Shading Project.
PROJECT ONE- use 12 x 18 paper
Use the techniques we have been working on and do a picture with color pencil.
There must be shading on the objects using the exercises we did earlier in the week.
There should be big objects and small objects.
Light and dark areas use bright intensity coloring and low intensity colors.
There must be layering of objects in the picture, parts of some objects hidden by parts of other objects.
The subject of your drawing is totally up to you. Ask Mrs. McLenehan to show you samples from years past or do a web search on color pencil art. Do not copy someone else’s work create your own.
Project Two- Tubes and Cubes
Tubes and Cubes- use 18 x 24 paper
Objectives you must meet;
five layers of big and small objects,
shading values on the sides of the cubes,
shading the tubes round,
five layers of objects to show perspective,
contrast big and small objects light and dark, (about 10 cubes 5 tubes)
